Anna Faris’ Inner Circle Fires Back at Chuck Lorre Over Casting Dig
Lorre says his doubts about Faris were later reinforced when she left after 7 seasons, even as he praised the sitcom's later creative direction.
In his new memoir 'Sitcom' released Tuesday, producer Chuck Lorre revealed he initially opposed casting Anna Faris as Christy Plunkett in the CBS comedy 'Mom', writing, 'I wasn't sure Anna would be appropriate for this kind of material.'
Lorre changed his mind after reflecting on his troubled history with 'Two and a Half Men' star Charlie Sheen, concluding, 'Someone's personal life is none of my business.'
The producer argued that Faris' 2020 exit validated his early reservations, claiming she left for 'mysterious reasons' that 'were not mysterious to anyone on the show.'
Sources close to Faris criticized Lorre's comments, telling TMZ that his remarks overlook her seven-year contribution and calling his decision to revisit casting doubts while promoting his book 's****y.'
Despite Faris' departure, Lorre praised the sitcom's later seasons, writing that 'Mom' 'found its true voice' toward the end, as the series continued until 2021 with Allison Janney as the sole lead.
