HAUCK STEPS DOWN AS UM HEAD COACH
Bobby Hauck retires after 14 seasons with 151-43 record; Montana promotes wide receivers coach Bobby Kennedy, a national title winner, to head coach.
On Wednesday, Montana head coach Bobby Hauck announced his retirement effective immediately, with the school confirming in a press release, and Skyline Sports first reported the news.
During two terms, Hauck built a record at Montana of 151-43, won eight Big Sky titles, and led multiple deep FCS postseason runs including a national championship game appearance.
This will be Kennedy's first head-coaching role after coaching Montana's receiver room last season, with stops at Rice, Stanford, Iowa, Washington, Arizona, Wake Forest, and Wyoming.
Montana scheduled a Wednesday 10 a.m. news conference where the coaching change coincides with the NCAA transfer window opening Feb. 9, giving Montana players 15 days to decide.
After a 13-2 season, Montana faces high expectations as the Grizzlies open their 2026 season Aug. 29 and Kennedy begins fall camp preparations on Feb. 13.
