Persons who have not reached the age of 35 will have to pay a minimum advance of 5%, compared to 15% at present, of the purchase price of a house worth between 70,001 euros and 140,000 euros purchased by the New House Program, according to a bill adopted by the senators and which will be forwarded for the final vote to Members. Currently, a minimum advance of 5% is provided only for houses of up to 70,000 euros.

The Senate voted to reduce the advance to 5% for young people under 35 who buy more than 70,000 euros through the New House. The project is still to be adopted by the Chamber of Deputies.

"The measure reduces the barrier to access to a home for young people by reducing the amount needed as an initial advance, without training direct costs to the state budget," says the Senate's PSD group.

The New House program could become more accessible to young people who want to buy a home, but do not have enough savings for a substantial advance. The Senate has adopted a legislative initiative that allows the minimum 5% advance to be extended to dwellings that exceed the threshold of 70,000 euros. However, the project must also pass through the Chamber of Deputies.
