White Sox catcher Kyle Teel tweaks his right knee while on a minor league rehab assignment
Will Venable said the 24-year-old catcher will be re-evaluated after soreness in his right knee slowed his rehab assignment.
Chicago White Sox catcher Kyle Teel tweaked his right knee on Saturday while playing for Triple-A Charlotte during his rehab assignment. Teel was absent from Sunday's lineup, and manager Will Venable said the 24-year-old will be reevaluated Monday.
Teel, acquired by Chicago in the 2024 Garrett Crochet trade, missed the start of the 2026 season after straining his right hamstring playing for Team Italy in the World Baseball Classic.
Sox catchers have struggled, hitting.166 with a.271 on-base percentage. Pitcher Davis Martin praised Drew Romo as a "calming presence" with a 0.96 ERA over 18 2/3 innings.
"There's some knee soreness in there that will probably slow him down," Venable said before Sunday's game. He added it is premature to evaluate the full extent of the concern.
Outfielder Austin Hays will begin a rehab assignment with Charlotte on Tuesday as the Sox manage multiple injuries. Prelander Berroa has returned from his own assignment due to right elbow inflammation.
