Which plug-in hybrids offer the longest EV range in Australia?
The 2025 BYD Shark 6 Premium, LDV eT60, and Ford F150 Lightning represent leading plug-in hybrids with notable electric ranges in Australia.
LDV pioneered electric utes locally in 2022, while AusEV imports and modifies the US-made F150 Lightning for Australian roads by remounting the steering wheel.
The BYD Shark 6 features a 29.58 kWh battery, 321 kW power, AWD, 800 km claimed range, and costs $57,990 plus on-road costs, with a towing capacity of 2500 kg braked.
The F150 Lightning Extended Range can travel 515 km but drops around half if towing near its 4500 kg capacity, while the LDV eT60’s range drops dramatically with minimal load.
These plug-in hybrids show trade-offs between towing capacity and electric range, implying buyers must balance utility and EV efficiency based on intended use.
The Ludospace segment usually offers spacious cars at lower cost. But with the Grand Tourneo Connect plug-in hybrid, a comfortable model with excellent range in electric mode, Ford presents a car at more than €47 000.
