Where Is Taylor Parker Now? What We Know About the ‘Maternal Instinct’ Killer on Texas Death Row
The film examines how prosecutors said Parker faked a pregnancy and killed Reagan Simmons-Hancock to steal her newborn.
Netflix's Maternal Instinct begins streaming Friday, June 12, revisiting the 2020 capital murder case of Taylor Parker, who killed pregnant friend Reagan Simmons-Hancock.
Parker faked a pregnancy to boyfriend Wade Griffin after a hysterectomy left her unable to conceive, befriending Simmons-Hancock while maintaining the lie to secure a child.
On October 9, 2020, Parker killed Simmons-Hancock in her New Boston, Texas, home, slashing her more than 100 times before cutting the unborn baby, Braxlynn Sage Hancock, from her womb.
A jury convicted Parker of capital murder in 2022, sentencing her to death; she now awaits execution at the Patrick L. O'Daniel Unit in Gatesville, Texas.
The U.S. Supreme Court denied a plea to hear Parker's case in May 2026 after an appeals court rejected her kidnapping conviction challenge in November 2025, leaving her execution date unscheduled.
