Here Are the States with the Best and Worst Health Care in 2025: Study
UNITED STATES, JUL 28 – New Hampshire ranked best for affordable, quality healthcare while Mississippi had the worst, with residents spending 18.66% of income on healthcare, WalletHub reported.
On July 28, 2025, personal finance website WalletHub published its study ranking U.S. states by healthcare cost, access, and outcomes.
Using 44 metrics, WalletHub evaluated U.S. states and Washington, D.C. across cost, access and outcomes, as the analysis compared these entities.
New Hampshire ranked first overall for best health care, with Rhode Island having the lowest out-of-pocket costs at 5.6 percent of income, and Minnesota among the top three.
West Virginia is not ranked among the worst states for healthcare, but it had the lowest average monthly premium at about $470 and the fourth-lowest out-of-pocket spending, according to WalletHub.
Experts cited Medicare cuts, medication pricing and workforce shortages as significant 2025 healthcare challenges, and Chip Lupo said 'Health care has two crucial components, cost and quality.
