  • Indiana National Guard will deploy approximately 300 soldiers to Washington, D.C. to support the D.C. National Guard's safety mission assisting civilian agencies and local law enforcement.
  • Following a request from the D.C. National Guard for help, the deployment follows a Secretary of the Army request LAST WEEK and a national emergency recently declared by President Donald Trump on crime.
  • Most troops come from units based in Bloomington, Indiana and Gary, Indiana, will train at Camp Atterbury before departure, and will replace other states' National Guard units mobilized since August.
  • Indiana Gov. Mike Braun authorized the deployment and said the Hoosier Guardsmen are `well-trained and fully prepared for this mission`, while Maj. Gen. Larry Muennich said `National Guard soldiers and airmen are uniquely qualified to help in these types of situations`.
  • The mission is expected to last no longer than four months, following broader multi-state deployments that included nearly 2,300 troops and more than 100 Ohio National Guard members in August.
