RCMP say The COM recruits vulnerable children ages 8 to 17 through grooming tactics on popular social media platforms.
- West Shore RCMP is investigating three reports involving a violent online group known as 764, which is allegedly part of a larger online network known as The COM.
- The COM operates on popular social media and gaming platforms including Discord, Telegram, Roblox, Minecraft, and Twitch, deliberately targeting vulnerable children ages eight to 17.
- Using grooming methods and coercive tactics, predators establish trust or romantic relationships to manipulate victims into engaging in serious violence, self-harm, gore activities, or harming animals.
- Parents are encouraged to watch for warning signs including a new online "friend" a child seems infatuated with, receiving anonymous gifts, or demonstrating interest in gore and self-harm content.
- If anyone believes a child is being targeted, they should report to Cybertip or local Police immediately; for immediate danger, call 9-1-1.
