West Midlands parents going without to cover school uniform costs
Research found 38% of parents worry about school shoes and 24% about PE kits as families cut spending and turn to baby banks.
Research by Save and the Baby Bank Alliance shows half of parents worry about school uniform prices, with more than a third going without to manage new term expenses.
Government figures show annual uniform costs average £440 for secondary school pupils and £340 for primary pupils, despite new rules limiting branded items to reduce expenses.
Thirty-Eight per cent of parents worry about school shoes, while 24 per cent fear PE kit prices; one in five plan to work extra hours to cover essentials.
Baby banks are reporting a rise in demand for uniforms for children as almost a third of parents cut household spending to manage costs.
Dan Paskins, executive director of UK Impact at Save the Children UK, said families should "get in touch with their local baby bank if they need help" amid the cost-of-living crisis.
