Weaver throws 2 TD passes, San Jose State wins 6th straight against Hawaii, 20-16
Weaver completed 19 of 28 passes for 246 yards as San Jose State converted two Hawaii turnovers into 10 points.
On Saturday night, San Jose State opened Mountain West Conference play with a 20-16 victory over Hawaii at Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex, marking the Spartans' sixth consecutive win over the Rainbow Warriors.
Spartans quarterback Luke Weaver led the charge after throwing four interceptions two weeks ago against Fresno State, completing 19 of 28 passes for 246 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's bounce-back performance.
Weaver connected with tight end Kamaehu Kopa-Kaawalauole on a 10-yard touchdown and receiver Carson Clark on a 12-yard scoring strike; the defense secured the win with interceptions by Jayden Robertson and Caleb Womack.
Despite a second-half rally powered by receiver Devin Alves, who caught a 58-yard touchdown pass, Hawaii fell to 1-4 overall; the Warriors' final comeback attempt ended when a pass was deflected as time expired.
Wyoming visits CEFCU Stadium next Friday at 6 p.m. for the Spartans' first home conference game, while the Warriors prepare for their next challenge visiting Arizona State next Saturday.
