Waymo is rebranding its Zeekr robotaxi
Waymo renamed its Zeekr RT robotaxi to Ojai to improve U.S. brand recognition and enhance rider experience with a personalized greeting, ahead of commercial launch.
- This past week at CES 2026, Waymo announced it is renaming the Zeekr RT robotaxi to Ojai before joining its commercial fleet.
- To avoid linking to the supplier brand, Waymo decided to rename the robotaxi because U.S. public is largely unfamiliar with Zeekr, automaker owned by Geely Holding Group, which it partnered with in 2021.
- Adding a steering wheel, the Ojai robotaxi retains its sensor suite of 13 cameras, 4 lidar units, and 6 radar systems while updating its paint color from bluish tint to silver.
- Waymo employees can already hail the Ojai in San Francisco and Phoenix, with plans to expand in a dozen more cities next year, including Denver, Las Vegas, and London.
- Named for Ojai, a village in the Topatopa Mountains near Los Angeles, the vehicle will greet riders with `Oh hi` plus their name and undergoes final tweaks after recent Southern California testing and noted bridge sensor issues.
