Watch on the rocks: Annual Monroe County raptor count continues without iconic tower

The Hanging Rock Tower, located on a ridge of Peters Mountain in the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests near Waiteville, Monroe County, West Virginia, has been closed since November 2024 because it is in disrepair, unstable and needs to be replaced. Volunteer raptor counters are working with local, state and federal officials to raise money and replace it.
