Two Lots of Pedigree Canned Dog Food Voluntarily Recalled Due to Possible Plastic and Metal Contamination
Mars said the recalled cans may contain sharp metal and plastic, and no pet illnesses or injuries have been reported.
Mars Petcare issued a voluntary recall on Thursday for two lots of PEDIGREE Can High Protein Chopped Chicken and Duck Flavor 13.2oz after discovering the products were fraudulently diverted into the United States marketplace.
Mars, Incorporated sent these two lots to a third-party vendor for destruction as part of quality control processes, but the company later discovered the product had entered the marketplace.
The recalled product may contain hard, sharp metal and plastic foreign material, posing health risks including choking, lacerations, or blockages in the gastrointestinal tract if consumed by dogs.
No pet illness or injury reports have been received to date; Consumers should immediately stop feeding the recalled product and contact PEDIGREE Consumer Care at 1-800-525-5273 for a replacement.
Mars is working with authorities to determine how the products entered the marketplace, while confirming no other PEDIGREE or Mars Petcare products are affected by this recall.
