Voitsberg is Austria's Blitz-Hotspot 2024

Austria-wide, 100,309 Earth flashes were recorded in the previous year, as the current lightning atlas shows. Hence, the poorest spot was Steyr (city) with 0.26 lightning events per square kilometre and year.

Around 100,000 Earth flashes were counted in Austria in 2024 – an increase of 35 percent compared to the previous year. No federal state was hit as often as Styria. The district of Voitsberg leads the ranking.

By 35 percent more flashes than in 2023 were registered in Austria in the previous year. Hotspot was the Styrian district Voitsberg with 2.52 hits per square kilometre.
