Skolverket: Too many students want to become salespeople

More students are attracted to upper secondary school vocational programs — but too many want to become salespeople and too few are aiming for jobs in healthcare, according to Skolverket.

Almost 60 per cent of young people who have sought secondary education have applied to vocational subjects. A few years ago, the cheers would have been on the ceiling. Now the principal sees other problems.

The government is increasing support for vocational schools and wants to strengthen the status of vocational schools as educational pathways.

The government continues its focus on higher vocational education. With the new white paper, the government will improve vocational schools through strengthened funding, more freedom and more career paths for skilled workers.
