Vizhinjam Port Prepares for Historic EXIM Launch Tomorrow
The launch follows a successful trial run and is expected to generate thousands of jobs in warehousing, cold storage and logistics.
On Tuesday, August 18, 2026, the Vizhinjam International Seaport will commence full EXIM operations, marking a significant milestone in Kerala's economic growth. Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan will flag off the first export container at the ceremony.
Backed by a ₹400-crore catalytic fund, the State government will launch 'Mission Samudra,' positioning Vizhinjam as the anchor of a wider Vizhinjam Maritime Economic Region spanning 8 industrial clusters, 3 new cities, and the State's 600-km coastline.
The Kerala Steamer Agents Association will launch its new Vizhinjam branch on Monday to manage incoming EXIM operations. Waterline Shipping and Logistics Private Limited handled the maiden consignment, employing 28 local fishermen to facilitate the port's rapid transit timeline.
Officials expect 'Mission Samudra' to draw over ten times the public investment in private capital by 2031. The initiative aims to trigger growth in warehousing and logistics parks, generating thousands of jobs across Thiruvananthapuram and neighboring districts.
Following a successful trial run to Valencia, Spain, Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal will attend as chief guest. The port transitions into India's most important commercial gateway, reshaping South Indian freight routing.
