VIRGINIA, UNITED STATES, JUL 10 – Virginia will use the $16.4 million settlement to fund prevention, treatment, and recovery programs after years of legal efforts secured over $1.1 billion in opioid-related settlements for the state.
- On July 10, 2025, Connecticut, New York, Virginia, and several other states announced a settlement totaling $720 million reached with eight opioid medication manufacturers.
- The settlement resulted from lawsuits accusing these companies of flooding communities with addictive opioid pills that worsened the nationwide crisis.
- Seven of the companies must stop marketing opioids, limit oxycodone pills to 40 mg, and implement suspicious order monitoring while Indivior agreed to halt opioid production for 10 years.
- Connecticut may receive up to $8.4 million, New York $38.7 million, and Virginia up to $103.8 million, with payments expected to begin as early as 2026 and funds directed to treatment and prevention.
