Victoria newcomer youth score ‘opportunity of a lifetime’ at FIFA World Cup

The Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria was selected to receive 10 free tickets to the FIFA World Cup match between New Zealand and Egypt at Vancouver's BC Place on Sunday, June 21.
Officials recently expanded the BC Place Community Benefit Program from 350 to 500 tickets through a joint initiative by the Province, PavCo, and the City of Vancouver, making the ICA the only Island group selected among 50 organizations.
Sport Minister Anne Kang emphasized the initiative targets youth facing barriers like financial limitations, stating, "Sport brings us together and inspires dreams," as the Province creates lasting memories for B.C. youth.
Facing a tight timeline before Sunday's kickoff, ICA director of development and communications Khan is using a random draw to select attendees from their network of youth and community leaders.
Khan called the experience an "opportunity of a lifetime" that anchors belonging for newcomers; the ICA has supported Greater Victoria's immigrant community for over 50 years, serving roughly 5,000 clients annually.
