'Very Sad' Police Update as Body of Missing Teen Found in Town
Police said the 18-year-old was found dead after a missing-person inquiry, and his death is being treated as unexplained.
Leicestershire Police confirmed the body of 18-year-old James Corlett was found in Ashby yesterday, ending a missing person search after he failed to return home from a night out on Thursday.
Derbyshire Police launched a missing person inquiry after James, from Swadlincote, Derbyshire, vanished following his night out. Authorities expressed extreme concern, noting it was 'completely out of character' for the teenager to disappear without telling anyone.
James was described as white, around 6ft tall with brown hair, last seen wearing jeans, a brown jumper, and black trainers. Officers appealed for 'urgent help' in locating him.
The death is 'currently being treated as unexplained and further inquiries continue to be carried out,' according to Leicestershire Police. The force confirmed James's family has been informed and is receiving specialist officer support.
Samantha Niblett, Labour MP for South Derbyshire, posted on Facebook expressing condolences and urging the public to offer 'kind words and consideration' while avoiding speculation about the circumstances.
