Verdict Expected in Trial of Woman Whose Dogs Killed 11-Year-Old Boy
The case centers on whether Crystal MacDonald was criminally negligent after prosecutors said her two Cane Corsos killed 11-year-old Kache Grist.
On Friday, Court of King's Bench Justice Eric Macklin found Crystal MacDonald guilty of criminal negligence causing the death of 11-year-old Kache Grist, who was killed by her two Cane Corsos in April 2024.
Before the fatal incident, the Cane Corsos had killed a cat and a Pomeranian, and severely injured three adults; Justice Macklin described MacDonald's approach to controlling the animals as 'cavalier.'
Crucially, Macklin concluded MacDonald left the dogs out of their kennels on the day Grist was killed, dismissing her testimony as 'evasive and defensive.'
During Friday's proceedings, MacDonald, 46, suffered a medical episode and required treatment after the judge condemned her failure to protect the child; the dogs were later euthanized.
The court heard that the boy's father, Wesley Grist, was in the garage during the attack, while Macklin noted 'trusted' handlers were present during all nine months of prior incidents.
