Huge Deadlock Update Propels Valve's MOBA Hero Shooter to the Top of the Steam Charts, Smashes Peak Concurrent Player Record
The City Never Sleeps update adds a new map, six heroes and major gameplay changes as Deadlock reaches a record 228,000 concurrent players.
Valve released the 'City Never Sleeps' update for Deadlock on Tuesday, introducing six new heroes and a stylized New York City map to the early-access multiplayer shooter.
Player interest surged following the update, with concurrent users exceeding 228,000 on Steam, marking an all-time high for the unreleased title according to SteamDB.
The update replaces traditional neutrals with new creatures called Haunts and introduces heroes including Rat King, Solomon, and Baba, alongside engine and interface improvements.
Valve said it continues developing features in parallel, with future work focusing on hero customizations and progression systems, though alternate game modes remain speculative pending playtesting.
Deadlock remains in limited testing with no announced release date, while Valve continues supporting major titles Counter-Strike and Dota amid ongoing early development.
Deadlock surpasses 220,000 simultaneous players on Steam after a megapark with six new heroes. It is still undated and only entered by invitation. The Deadlock entry pulverizes their Steam record: the Valve MOBA that is only played by invitation was first published on What!.
