USPS Letter Carriers Launch Annual 'Stamp Out Hunger' Food Drive to Combat Hunger

Residents can leave non-perishable food in or near mailboxes, and all donations stay in the Brainerd lakes community.

  • On Saturday, May 9, the National Association of Letter Carriers will conduct its 34th annual 'Stamp Out Hunger' food drive, collecting non-perishable items left by residents near mailboxes across more than 10,000 communities.
  • Since 1993, the drive has collected more than 1.94 billion pounds of food, aiming to restock pantries during summer months when school meal programs are unavailable and donations typically decrease.
  • Residents are encouraged to donate canned proteins, fruits, and vegetables, which are most needed. Food Bank of Delaware President and CEO Cathy Kanefsky said, "They do so much more than deliver mail, they help deliver hope."
  • God's Pantry Food Bank President and CEO Michael Halligan said, "We are seeing demand grow every day," as inflation and economic pressures strain families seeking food assistance.
  • Those preferring financial contributions can donate online, where every $1 donated helps provide up to $5 worth of nutritious food through the Foodbank's network and partnerships.
