USDA Recalls 1.5 Million Pounds of Hot Dogs, Bacon and Other Products Over Storage Concerns
The voluntary recall covers hot dogs, bacon and deli meats after investigators traced the problem to a warehouse cooler with temperature deviations.
On Saturday, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced that Chelsea, Massachusetts-based Kayem Foods is recalling nearly 1.6 million pounds of ready-to-eat meat and poultry products due to potential temperature abuse during storage.
A retail customer complaint regarding warm product temperatures on October 1 prompted Kayem Foods to investigate, revealing a warehouse cooler that experienced temperature deviations affecting stored ready-to-eat items.
Affected products, produced between March 31 and October 7, 2026, include hot dogs, bacon, sausage, turkey breasts, and hams. Consumers can identify recalled items by checking for establishment number "EST. M 9520" inside the USDA mark of inspection.
FSIS urges consumers not to eat the recalled products, which were shipped nationwide and to Hong Kong. The agency remains concerned some products may still be in home refrigerators and advises discarding or returning items to the place of purchase.
Although no illnesses are confirmed, the Class I recall classification indicates a reasonable probability of serious health problems. Listeria monocytogenes, which grows at refrigerator temperatures, poses the highest risk to pregnant people and older adults.
