Washington’s envoy said the United States remains committed to the Taiwan Relations Act and the One-China policy after the White House talks.
- U.S. policy toward Taiwan remains unchanged following talks between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, Ambassador David Perdue stated Friday. Perdue emphasized the United States remains committed to the One-China policy.
- Marking his first trip to the White House in 11 years, Xi's three-day state visit included tea with President Donald Trump and Melania Trump. This summit marked their second meeting this year.
- The United States remains committed to the Taiwan Relations Act, the three joint communiqués and the Six Assurances, Perdue emphasized. "Nothing has changed there," he noted, stating the U.S. wants peace across the strait.
- China's Foreign Ministry stated in a readout that Xi urged Trump to oppose "Taiwan independence" and "prudently handle the Taiwan question." Beijing's position on "national reunification and territorial integrity" remains clear-cut.
- Trump described the meeting as one of "Friendship, Strength, and Success." He added, "We will be meeting again in November, in China, and then at the G20 in December, in Miami, Florida.
