U.S. Stocks Close Mixed Following Choppy Trading Day
Following the rally seen during Thursday's session, stocks fluctuated over the course of the trading day on Friday. The major averages swung back and forth across the unchanged line before ending the day mixed. While the Nasdaq and S&P 500 ended the day in positive territory, the narrower Dow posted a modest loss on the day.
Falling oil prices and rising tech stocks lifted sentiment on global stock markets, with US stocks ending the day higher on Thursday, lifting Asian markets on Friday morning. According to ChainCatcher and Gate market data, U.S. stocks closed lower on Friday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average initially fell 0.19%, the S&P 500 rose 0.16%, and the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.39%. SanDisk rose 10.99%, SK Hynix rose 2.46%, Micron Technology rose 3.92%, and Nvidia rose 1.34%. Qualcomm fell 5.82%, Dell fell 3.3%, and SpaceX fell 1.36%. The Nasdaq China Golden Dragon Index rose 0.78%, Alibaba rose 4.34%, and Baidu fell 0.11%.
