Trump remarks do not signal Taiwan policy shift: Jamestown head
Taipei, May 25 (CNA) U.S. President Donald Trump's recent remarks that he was "not looking" for Taiwan to declare independence do not represent a change in Washington's long-standing policy toward Taiwan, the president of The Jamestown Foundation said Monday.
Regarding the Taiwan-US relations following the Trump-Xi meeting, Peter Mattis, a former CIA counterintelligence analyst, pointed out on the 25th that the public should not interpret US policy toward Taiwan solely based on statements, but should observe it from the overall policy context. The US's tone of maintaining peace in the Taiwan Strait and supporting Taiwan's defense capabilities has not changed.
