U.S. nuclear test in mid-August 1991 used name of Floyd’s county seat

Summary by Hesperian Beacon
When Floyd County’s seat was named in 1890 for an 1836 defender of the Alamo, it was called Floyd City, according to the Handbook of Texas Online—and there are at least three versions on how the “Ada” was added. But no one back then expected their unique placename would wind up attached to one of America’s nuclear tests between 1945 and 1991, had they even been able to envision an atom, or that it would be possible to split one.
