U.S. Mint Begins Selling Trump $1 Coins for 250th Anniversary
The coins are legal tender and collectibles, with 250,000 special "July 4th" versions randomly included in bags and rolls, the Mint said.
- Starting Sept 2, the Mint is selling American $1 coins featuring President Donald Trump's likeness, with prices ranging from about $1.55 to $2.44 per coin.
- Designed to commemorate the nation's 250th anniversary, the coins feature the dual date 1776 and 2026; a 2020 law allows Trump's design despite regulations usually requiring deceased subjects.
- Although gold-colored, the coins contain no actual gold, using copper with 6% zinc, 3.5% manganese, and 2% nickel. A 25-coin roll costs $61, while a 100-coin bag costs $154.50.
- Special-Issue coins featuring a "July 4th" privy mark are randomly included in the Mint's inventory; they serve as both collectibles and legal tender.
- Positioning the coins as a "once-in-a-generation" design, the Mint emphasized their appeal to collectors, with the reverse side inscribed "250" to honor the nation's semiquincentennial.
