US military sets Iranian drone carrier ship on fire

The IRIS Shahid Bagheri, a converted container ship with a 180-meter drone runway, was struck as part of a U.S. campaign targeting over 30 Iranian naval vessels, CENTCOM said.

  • CENTCOM said Friday U.S. forces struck an Iranian drone carrier nearly the size of a World War II aircraft carrier, which is on fire, and have sunk over 30 Iranian navy vessels.
  • Operation Epic Fury began early Saturday and CENTCOM briefed reporters at MacDill Air Force Base, Tampa, Florida, about ramped-up capabilities.
  • CENTCOM added that strikes hit Iran's missile and space infrastructure, including its equivalent of Space Command, in the last 72 hours.
  • Adm. Brad Cooper said Iran's navy has been decimated and its drone capabilities damaged, while U.S. officials vowed the campaign will continue at full intensity with more firepower planned.
  • In Washington, officials say the campaign aims to weaken Iran's naval capabilities through sustained operations, amid expanding hostilities, despite the House narrowly rejecting a war powers resolution.
