- Agency officials are finalizing a proposal to scrap mandates from the Biden era that required fossil fuel-fired power plants to deploy emissions-reduction technologies.
- Power plants represent the largest industrial source of greenhouse gas emissions, and rules from President Joe Biden were designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 1 billion metric tonnes.
- Officials also plan to propose a separate rule repealing the federal finding that greenhouse gases from power plants specifically pose a threat under the Clean Air Act.
- Earlier, the EPA rescinded similar climate standards for vehicles and the 2009 endangerment finding, a landmark ruling which held that greenhouse gases threaten human health, following previous rollbacks under Trump.
