U.S. Coast Guard closes portion of St. Mary's River to remove vessel that struck buoy

The U.S. Coast Guard Vessel Traffic Service reported late Thursday morning it has closed the St. Mary's River, from Nine Mile Point to Point Aux Frenes, until an immobile vessel can be safely moved from the channel. At approximately 1 a.m. Thursday, the American Mariner, a 714-foot bulk cargo ship, struck the Mud Lake Junction Buoy with its bow.
