US adds more penalties to those linked to Tren de Aragua gang

The U.S. Treasury sanctioned five Tren de Aragua affiliates including entertainer Jimena Romina Araya Navarro, accusing them of aiding gang operations and money laundering, with rewards up to $5 million.

  • On Wednesday, the United States government issued sanctions on alleged Tren de Aragua affiliates and the State Department raised the reward for Giovanni Vicente Mosquera Serrano to $5 million.
  • Originating in Venezuela's Tocorón prison, Tren de Aragua expanded control over the facility and regional routes; U.S. authorities say the gang engages in drug trafficking, human smuggling, and money laundering.
  • The Treasury's OFAC targeted Venezuelan entertainer Jimena Romina Araya Navarro, known as 'Rosita,' accusing her of aiding Héctor Rusthenford Guerrero Flores' 2012 prison escape and laundering TdA funds through nightclubs including Maiquetia VIP Bar Restaurant, Bogotá, involving her former bodyguard Eryk Manuel Landaeta Hernández.
  • The State Department added that Mosquera Serrano is the first Tren de Aragua member on the FBI Ten Most Wanted list and OFAC sanctioned 11 additional alleged affiliates amid increased U.S. military strikes in recent months.
  • Amid escalating threats from the administration, the Trump administration frames sanctions on Tren de Aragua as part of broader pressure on Nicolás Maduro, while the Mexican government also coordinated sanctions and prosecutions Wednesday.
