Saudi Arabia’s Specialized Criminal Court on August 21 overturned the eleven-year prison sentence imposed on women’s rights activist Manahel al-Otaibi. The activist has been imprisoned since 2022 on charges related solely to her choice of clothing and expression of her opinions online, but has been given a new five-year sentence with a subsequent five-year travel ban, according to her family and NGOs.
