Update: Police investigate hunters following shots fired, lockdown of UKV school

An Upper Kanawha Valley elementary school was temporarily locked down, on Sept. 20, 2024, for what turned out to be hunters in the area for the first day of squirrel season. No injuries were reported in the incident. Metro 911 dispatchers said a call of shots heard came in around 7:40 a.m. from workers on the roof of Sharon Dawes Elementary School, 5118 Cabin Creek Road near the community of Miami in Cabin Creek, Kanawha County, West Virginia.
