UPDATE: Beverly Hills house fire continues to burn in Vernon a day later
Crews from Vernon, BC Wildfire Service and nearby fire departments kept the blaze contained as smoke continued a day later.
- On Saturday, Aug. 8, Vernon Fire Rescue responded to reports of dark smoke around 5 p.m. after a fire engulfed a single-family home in the 100 block of Sunset Boulevard in the Beverly Hills Estate.
- Due to the structure's location near a wildland interface area, Crews operated in defensive conditions to contain the blaze from outside. The City confirmed the home was fully involved upon arrival.
- The Kelowna and Kamloops fire departments provided mutual aid to Vernon Fire Rescue, while the Wildfire Service supported the response with ground Crews and aerial resources monitoring the nearby forest.
- By Aug. 9, smoke was still visible from the site as firefighters continued battling the blaze. Crews remained on scene to monitor the situation, according to updates from The City.
- The Morning Star has requested updates from the RCMP and Vernon Fire Department regarding the fire's cause and ongoing response. The City says it is aware of the situation and more information is to come.
