Delhi to Kanpur in 1 Hour 45 Minutes: PM Modi Clears North Corridor of Bullet Train Project

The corridor would give Uttar Pradesh its first high-speed rail service and cut Delhi-Varanasi travel to 3.5 hours, officials said.

  • On Saturday, Railway Minister Ashwinin Vaishnaw announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the Northern Bullet Train Corridor, marking a major expansion of India's high-speed rail network.
  • Vaishnaw emphasized that the project aims to serve middle-class families, youth, and MSME sectors, with bullet train fares kept lower than airfares to ensure broad accessibility.
  • The high-speed service will reduce travel time between Delhi and Varanasi to 3.5 hours, with journeys to Agra taking 59 minutes and to Prayagraj 33 minutes, Vaishnaw stated.
  • Vaishnaw recently inspected construction of the Namo Bridge across the River Ganga in Varanasi, a 2.5 km project costing Rs 2,657 crore targeted for 2029 completion.
  • Once finished, the Namo Bridge will feature six-lane road and four railway tracks, strengthening access to Kashi Railway Station and enabling operation of more than 100 additional trains.
