Unopposed Candidates to Become Elected Officials by Default

PAYNE COUNTY — Several Payne County leadership roles may be filled automatically this year, after multiple candidates filed with no opposition during the statutory filing period. Under Oklahoma election law, any candidate who is unopposed becomes the elected official by default — unless someone files a valid contest of candidacy within the allowed timeframe after filing closes.
