4 Flight Attendants Injured After LAX-Bound United Flight Encounters Severe Turbulence: Report
United said 190 passengers were unhurt as the Boeing 777 landed safely, while one injured flight attendant was taken to a hospital.
On Wednesday night, United Airlines Flight 1157 from Honolulu encountered severe turbulence during its descent to Los Angeles International Airport, injuring four flight attendants. The Boeing 777-200 landed safely with 190 passengers and 10 crew members onboard.
FlightAware data shows the aircraft dropped about 3,675 feet in one minute during the final 20 minutes of descent. Passengers reported hearing a "huge bang" before the plane plummeted, causing shaking and panic throughout the cabin.
Two flight attendants, aged 58 and 62, sustained neck and back injuries, according to radio call recordings obtained by ABC 7. United confirmed all four injured attendants received medical evaluation, with one transported to a hospital for further treatment.
After landing at 9:44 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time, the aircraft remained on the tarmac for at least 30 minutes waiting for an available gate. Emergency medical services were dispatched to assist the injured crew members upon arrival at LAX.
United Airlines confirmed the flight arrived safely despite being 20 minutes behind schedule. The carrier is cooperating with relevant authorities and will provide further information as it becomes available.
