Two UNIJOS Students Killed, Three Injured in Plateau Attacks

Three other students were injured and are receiving treatment as the university says academic activities will continue with tightened security.

  • UNIJOS confirmed on Thursday that two students were killed and three others injured following recent violence in Jos North, Plateau State, as Vice-Chancellor Tanko Ishaya briefed journalists.
  • The attacks began on March 29 when gunmen struck Angwan Rukuba, a community hosting many university staff and students, triggering a 48-hour curfew in Jos North after more than 30 people were reportedly killed.
  • Vice-Chancellor Tanko Ishaya identified the deceased as Abel Gershon, a 300-level Building student who died on April 5, and Adeyemo Temitope, a Quantity Surveying student killed on April 1 along Bauchi Road.
  • Despite the incidents, academic activities resumed on Tuesday across all campuses, with examinations scheduled to continue on Monday, April 13, as security measures were significantly strengthened.
  • Ishaya commended security agencies, including the Chief of Army Staff, for prioritizing the university's safety, while appealing to parents and guardians to allow their wards to return to campus.
