Brazil: STF issues unanimous ruling against Congresswoman Zambelli
- On May 14, 2025, Brazil's Supreme Federal Court handed down a 10-year prison term to Congresswoman Carla Zambelli for her involvement in the 2023 breach of the National Justice Council's electronic system.
- The court concluded that Zambelli orchestrated the hack executed by Walter Delgatti to create a false arrest warrant against Justice Alexandre De Moraes.
- Walter Delgatti, convicted in the same case, received an 8-year and 3-month sentence after admitting he acted on Zambelli's instruction, while she also faces a separate stalking and firearm case.
- The court mandated that Zambelli compensate R$ 2 million for damages affecting the public interest, while her legal team criticized the virtual nature of the trial, arguing it was unfair and lacked conclusive proof.
- If appeals fail, Zambelli will lose her mandate, signaling strict judicial action against political crimes involving digital breaches and misconduct.
