The San José Health Unit reinforced the security measures after a "serious failure" in the identification of corpses. Those responsible admit that they did not comply with the procedures, which led to the exchange.
A family received the wrong body and only noticed the exchange during the wake, in a case that the ERS classified as of special gravity.
The case dates back to January 15, when it was improperly delivered to a funeral agency the body of a deceased user the previous day, when it should have been delivered the corpse of another user who died also on the same day. It was the family who, during the wake, detected the failure.
The local health unit of São José (Lisboa) was obliged to review and strengthen the procedures for the identification of corpses, following the exchange of two bodies that was only detected by one of the families in the wake.
Case dates back to January and was this Wednesday released by the Health Regulatory Entity.
