Ukraine destroys Russian S-400 launcher in Bryansk region

Fire Point said the launcher had been modified to hit ground targets, including Kyiv, as Ukrainian strikes expanded against Russian military assets.

  • On September 17, Ukrainian Defense Forces struck two Russian S-400 launchers near the village of Poroshino in Bryansk Oblast. Open-source analysts geolocated the destroyed vehicle from photos of the wreckage along highway 15K-303.
  • Fire Point reported that its FP-1 drones destroyed a launcher modified by Russian forces to strike ground targets. Analysts confirmed this system was recently used to launch attacks against Kyiv.
  • The S-400 Triumph system is designed to engage aircraft and missiles at ranges up to 400 kilometers. Moscow has adapted these interceptors for quasi-ballistic strikes against Ukrainian cities since 2024.
  • Bryansk acting governor Yegor Kovalchuk claimed Russian air defenses shot down 82 drones over the region in 24 hours. Russia has not confirmed any S-400 losses.
  • Ukraine faces severe shortages of high-end air-defense interceptors capable of countering ballistic missiles, making direct strikes on these launchers increasingly important. Operations against key Russian military targets are continuing, according to the General Staff.
