UK makes world's biggest-ever seizure of fake weight loss jabs

  • Officials executed a raid on a Northampton warehouse and seized around £250,000 of fake weight-loss drugs, packaging, and equipment.
  • Authorities say the site was part of an illicit global market that targeted unlicensed weight-loss medicines endangering patients and enriching organised criminals, while health guidance stresses obtaining prescriptions from a registered pharmacy against a healthcare professional's prescription.
  • Searches turned up raw chemical ingredients and more than 2,000 unlicensed retatrutide and tirzepatide pens, and labels suggested tirzepatide with Eli Lilly warning buyers of `no way of knowing what they actually contain`.
  • MHRA's Andy Morling called the seizure a `landmark result and a major blow to the illegal trade`, stopping tens of thousands of potentially fatal products from entering circulation with no arrests made so far.
  • The MHRA said this is the first illicit production facility for weight-loss medicine discovered in the UK and is believed to be the largest single seizure ever recorded by a law enforcement agency.
