UK brewery enters administration as survival crisis mounts amid 'challenging costs'
FRP Advisory is seeking a buyer as the north London brewery keeps trading amid rising taxes and costs that have pushed three brewers a week to close, SIBA said.
Redemption Brewing Company has entered administration, appointing FRP Advisory as administrators while continuing to trade and seeking a buyer to protect the brewery's 75 pubs across London.
Financial difficulties deepened for the company, with its deficit rising from £632,151 in 2023 to £705,111 in 2024, alongside a net loss of £72,960 and an HMRC winding-up petition filed in January.
The Society of Independent Brewers and Associates describes a "survival crisis" with around three brewers closing weekly, while FRP stated rising duty rates place a particular burden on independent brewers.
Established in 2010, the brewery is a Tottenham community pillar known for brands like Hopspur and Big Chief, having supported the campaign to save The Antwerp Arms alongside Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy.
Brewing operations face mounting pressure from VAT, employment taxes, and business rate hikes introduced late last year, forcing many pubs to switch to global brewing companies instead of independent suppliers.
