Ubisoft Names Co-CEOs of Spinoff: Christophe Derennes, Charlie Guillemot Talk Plans for ‘Assassin’s Creed,’ ‘Rainbow Six’ and ‘Far Cry’
SEINE-SAINT-DENIS, ÎLE-DE-FRANCE, JUL 16 – Tencent invested $1.25 billion for a 25% stake in Ubisoft's new subsidiary to drive growth and autonomy for its top franchises amid company challenges.
- On March 27, 2025, Ubisoft announced its new subsidiary, naming Christophe Derennes and Charlie Guillemot as co-CEOs.
- After recent game failures and a drop in value, Ubisoft partnered with Tencent for a €1.16 billion investment, building an autonomous entity for Assassin's Creed, Far Cry and Rainbow Six.
- Charlie Guillemot said “What matters now isn't my name, it's the work ahead,” Christophe Derennes brings over 35 years at Ubisoft as North America Managing Director, and the venture follows a $1.25 billion Tencent cash injection in March.
- Ubisoft is under fire for appointing its CEO’s son to lead the Tencent-backed subsidiary, earlier this month Serge Hascoët received an 18-month suspended sentence and $52,000 fine for harassment, and cost-cutting has included mass layoffs, studio closures and shutting down XDefiant.
- On track to finish by the end of 2025, the subsidiary will give development teams autonomy and agility to unlock iconic games' potential, and Charlie Guillemot said generative AI and cloud are expected to revolutionize game creation and player experiences.
