UBC Okanagan fires men's soccer coach after winless season
The move ends Dante Zanatta’s 16-year tenure after the Heat finished 0-18 and lost 3-1 in their season finale, the university said.
On Oct. 29, UBC Okanagan announced it is parting ways with men's soccer head coach Dante Zanatta following the team's winless 0-18 season.
Zanatta's departure concludes his 16-year tenure leading the soccer program, during which he compiled a record of 54-112-48 across Canada West and PACWEST seasons.
The announcement came 4 days after the UBCO Heat concluded their season with a 3-1 loss to the Northern British Columbia Timberwolves, though Zanatta led the team to 3 playoff appearances during his tenure.
"I want to thank Dante for his 16 years of service," said Spencer Pommells, the Heat's director of varsity sport, noting the department is committed to supporting student-athletes during transition.
UBC Okanagan is immediately beginning the process to find a new head coach, aiming to build a structure that competes with the best in Canada West.
