Two-year-old killed in motorway collision as five others in hospital with serious injuries
A 64-year-old driver faces charges after a broken-down Toyota Auris was hit on the A1, killing a toddler and seriously injuring five others, police said.
- On Saturday, a two-year-old boy, from London, died in a crash on the A1 northbound at Stibbington Junction at about 6.20pm.
- The Toyota Auris broke down in a live northbound carriageway just past Stibbington Junction and was struck by a Volkswagen Touran at around 6.20pm on Saturday.
- Five passengers were rushed to Peterborough City Hospital with serious injuries, and specialist family liaison officers are supporting the bereaved family.
- The Volkswagen driver, a 64-year-old man from Peterborough, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and released on bail until March 20 after minor injuries.
- Cambridgeshire Police are urging witnesses to come forward and report information or dashcam footage online quoting incident 401 of December 20, or call 101 if without internet access.
