Child Falls From TUI Cruise Ship and Is 'Fighting for Life'
The 2-year-old was stabilised at the scene and taken to hospital as TUI Cruises opened an internal inquiry into the fall.
- On Wednesday, a two-year-old child fell between 10 and 13 feet from the TUI Cruises vessel Mein Schiff while docked in Funchal, Madeira, and is reportedly "fighting for its life."
- The Schiff is currently undertaking a seven-day round trip that departed Gran Canaria on April 20 and is scheduled to return to the same island next Monday, according to reports.
- Red Cross officials and a "rapid intervention" medical team mobilized immediately, stabilizing the toddler at the scene before transporting the child to Dr Nelio Mendonca Hospital's A&E department.
- The Administration of the Ports of the Autonomous Region of Madeira confirmed an internal inquiry has been launched, while Portuguese officials investigate the circumstances of the fall.
- Described as a "foreign national" traveling with parents, the toddler's injuries are reported as "very serious" by sources at Dr Nelio Mendonca Hospital, where the child remains hospitalized.
