Two-year ban for 'Clicky Ponting' cricketer
A disciplinary panel found he used finger-clicking to mimic an edge and deceive umpires, and Saltburn Cricket Club was fined £300 and relegated.
On Friday, the England and Wales Cricket Board banned amateur player Brian Devine from all ECB-regulated cricket for two years, running from September 30, 2026, to September 29, 2028.
The controversy erupted in July after footage showed Devine clicking his fingers to mimic an edge against Norton Cricket Club, earning the 38-year-old the nickname 'Clicky Ponting' after the video garnered millions of views.
Saltburn's Second XI faced automatic relegation to Division Three, a £300 fine, and a 60-point deduction for the 2027 season following the disciplinary investigation.
Saltburn CC stated the club "fully participated in the disciplinary proceedings" and accepted the appeal decision while focusing on preparations for the 2027 season.
The North Yorkshire and South Durham Cricket League contacted member clubs to acknowledge the scandal's strain, while Steve Smith and David Warner received only 12-month bans following the 2018 sandpaper Test.
